When Sher and Danny contacted me to ask if I would take a helicopter ride with them to the Grand Canyon, then land at sunset at the Valley of Fire and do a portrait session, I could barely contain my excitement. If ever there was a session made for me and my sense of adventure, this was it!! I helped them coordinate outfits, timing, and a helicopter charter (shout out to Five Star Helicopter Tours for being so accommodating!) and on our session date we met up at the M Casino Resort in Henderson to wait for the driver to take us to the airport.
Upon first meeting Sher and Danny, we clicked immediately. Turns out Sher is just as big of a David Gray fan as I am, which is funny because he isn't very well known outside of the United Kingdom. Also apparent was the deep love and respect that Sher and Danny have for each other.
We took flight from the Boulder City, NV airport and flew out over Lake Mead, and then straight on right up and over the Grand Canyon rim. It was utterly amazing and crazy at the same time, being so far up in the air, and yet having to go up even higher to make it over the rim! I took some shots of Sher and Danny holding hands as we dropped down into the canyon and followed the Colorado River as it. traverses the canyon. Then we headed straight out of the canyon, and back over the desert to the Valley of Fire.
Our pilot landed the helicopter right on top of a high, flat plateau, and we got out and enjoyed a glass of champagne as the sun began to set over the majestic vista before us.
Before we had to leave, I captured the requested "Mr. & Mrs." portraits against the stunning landscape, and a few with the helicopter. Then we had to fly back to Las Vegas. What an amazing session and I wish Sher and Danny a lifetime of happiness in their new marriage together!
