In October 2018, Heather and Jon were visiting Las Vegas from Florida and hired me to capture their engagement portraits on Mount Charleston. A few short months later, they asked me to photograph their destination wedding in the Smokey Mountains of North Carolina and I was so thrilled! Donny and I flew into Raleigh a few days prior and spent the early part of the week bee-bopping around Washington, D.C., Gettysburg, and Raleigh. One of my favorite things to do is stay in historic (haunted!) bed and breakfast's, and this trip gave me plenty of opportunity, haha. We definitely had some interesting experiences!
The day before the wedding, it poured rain, and the forecast for the next day was looking pretty bleak, with a hurricane front moving into the region. But, the next morning, the sun was shining and there wasn't a cloud in the sky!
Heather is a great crafty DIY'er, and her talent certainly showed as she did all of her wedding decor and special pieces herself. The gentlemen wore casual cowboy chic with jeans and cowboy boots. Donny even complained to me that he was overdressed for the event since he was wearing slacks, lol!
The wedding alter was an amazing circle of grape vines, also beautifully decorated by Heather, and the view from the top, overlooking the mountains, was to die for. Heather and Jon said their vows in front of all their family and friends who had made the trip to celebrate with them.
Heather's favorite time of year is the autumn season, and after the ceremony I found a forested area with red and gold fall leaves, where the light was falling unbelievably through the trees, and there I captured some of my favorite images of their day.
Both of these people are one of the sweetest, down to earth couples that I've had the honor to photograph. Congratulations, Heather and Jon!
